Terms of Use
Last updated: 2 October 2026
1. About these terms
Roadtrip is provided by Kodeword Limited, a New Zealand company ("Roadtrip", "we", "us"). These terms apply when you use the Roadtrip apps for iPhone, iPad and Android, and the website at getroadtrip.app. By using Roadtrip you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use Roadtrip.
Our Privacy Policy explains what information we collect and how we use it.
2. What Roadtrip does
Roadtrip estimates what a journey will cost in fuel or charging, shows fuel prices at stations in some countries, and lets you save and share trips. It is a planning tool. It is not a navigation system, and it is not financial or motoring advice.
3. Estimates and fuel prices
Everything Roadtrip calculates is an estimate. What you actually pay depends on things we cannot know, such as traffic, weather, how you drive, the load you carry and the price at the pump on the day.
- Trip costs are worked out from the route, the fuel use recorded for your vehicle and recent fuel prices. Any of these can differ from reality.
- Station prices come from governments, fuel retailers and other third parties. They can be out of date, incomplete or wrong. The price shown at the station is the price you pay.
- Vehicle details come from vehicle data providers and may not match your car exactly.
- Emissions, road user charges and tolls are indicative figures only.
Please do not rely on Roadtrip where an exact figure matters, for example for tax, expenses claims or business pricing, without checking the numbers yourself.
4. Driving safely
Do not use Roadtrip while you are driving. Plan before you set off or ask a passenger. Routes are shown for planning only: always follow road signs, road rules and the conditions in front of you.
5. Your account
The apps need an account so your trips and settings can be saved. You can sign in with Apple, Google or email, depending on the app. You are responsible for activity on your account, so keep access to it secure and tell us if you think someone else is using it. Roadtrip is not intended for children under 13.
You can delete your account at any time from Settings in the app or through our account deletion page.
6. Free use and Roadtrip Pro
You can use Roadtrip for free within limits, for example on the number of calculations each month, saved vehicles and stops on a trip. We may change these limits. Roadtrip Pro is a paid subscription that removes or raises them. Subscriptions are not offered in every app or country.
- Payment. Roadtrip Pro is sold through the Apple App Store or Google Play. The store takes payment from your store account. We never see your card details.
- Renewal. A subscription renews automatically for the same period, at the price then in effect, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends.
- Free trials. If your subscription starts with a free trial, you are charged when the trial ends unless you cancel before then.
- Cancelling. Manage or cancel your subscription in your App Store or Google Play account settings. You keep Roadtrip Pro until the end of the period you have paid for. Deleting the app or your Roadtrip account does not cancel a subscription.
- Refunds. Purchases are handled by the store you bought from, so refund requests go to Apple or Google under their policies. This does not affect any right to a refund that you have under the law where you live.
- Price changes. Prices vary by country and may change. If the price of a subscription you already hold is going to change, you will be told in advance and can cancel before the new price applies.
7. Sharing trips
If you share a trip, anyone with the link can see its route, vehicle and cost details. Only share trips you are happy for the people you send them to, and anyone they pass the link to, to see.
8. Using Roadtrip fairly
You agree not to:
- use Roadtrip in a way that breaks the law;
- copy, scrape or collect our data in bulk, or use automated tools to access Roadtrip, unless we have agreed in writing;
- resell Roadtrip or its data, or use it to build a competing product;
- get around usage limits, security or access controls;
- interfere with Roadtrip or the services it depends on, or try to reverse engineer it, except where the law allows this.
9. Ownership and your licence
Roadtrip, including its software, design, name and logo, belongs to Kodeword Limited or its licensors. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use Roadtrip on devices you own or control, for as long as you follow these terms. If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them without owing you anything.
10. Other companies' services and links
Roadtrip relies on services from other companies, including maps and routing, sign-in, fuel price and vehicle data, and the app stores. Their own terms apply to what they provide. Roadtrip also contains links to other websites and offers, and we may earn a commission from some of them. We are not responsible for third-party services, websites or offers.
11. Changes and availability
We work to keep Roadtrip running and improving, but we cannot promise it will always be available or free of errors. We may add, change or remove features, and we may suspend Roadtrip for maintenance or for reasons outside our control.
12. Ending your use of Roadtrip
You can stop using Roadtrip at any time. We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, or if we need to do so to protect Roadtrip or other people. If we stop offering Roadtrip altogether, we will give reasonable notice where we can.
13. Our responsibility to you
Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law that cannot be excluded, such as the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 in New Zealand, the Australian Consumer Law, or the Consumer Rights Act 2015 in the United Kingdom. Nothing limits our liability for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by our negligence.
Subject to that, and as far as the law allows:
- Roadtrip is provided "as is", without promises about accuracy, availability or fitness for a particular purpose;
- we are not liable for loss caused by relying on an estimate, price or route shown in Roadtrip, or for indirect or consequential loss, lost profits or lost data;
- our total liability to you is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for Roadtrip Pro in the 12 months before the claim arose, and NZ$100.
If you use Roadtrip for business purposes, you agree that the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 does not apply.
14. Apps downloaded from the Apple App Store
If you downloaded Roadtrip from the Apple App Store, the following also applies:
- These terms are between you and Kodeword Limited, not Apple. We, not Apple, are responsible for Roadtrip and its content.
- Your licence is to use Roadtrip on Apple devices that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for Roadtrip.
- If Roadtrip fails to meet any warranty that applies, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any. As far as the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for Roadtrip.
- We, not Apple, are responsible for dealing with any claim relating to Roadtrip, including product liability claims, claims that Roadtrip does not meet a legal requirement, consumer protection or privacy claims, and claims that Roadtrip infringes someone else's intellectual property.
- You confirm that you are not in a country subject to a United States government embargo or designated by it as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not on any United States government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- You must follow any third-party terms that apply when you use Roadtrip, such as your mobile data agreement.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
15. Apps downloaded from Google Play
If you downloaded Roadtrip from Google Play, these terms are between you and Kodeword Limited, not Google. Google is not responsible for Roadtrip or its content. Your use of Google Play itself is covered by the Google Play Terms of Service.
16. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed. If a change is significant, we will tell you in the app or on this page before it takes effect. Continuing to use Roadtrip after a change means you accept the new terms.
17. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of New Zealand, and the courts of New Zealand can hear any dispute. If you are a consumer living in another country, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of that country and may be able to bring a claim in its courts.
